Navigating blunder
Anastazija Pirnat
The exhibition combines the question of painting's contextualization with the subjective aspect of the ever-failed establishment of identity. It is searching for a relationship between seriousness and (self) irony and between meaning and banality. Through humor the works hold a critical stance – sometimes even just towards the absurdity of the banal situations in which we put ourselves, and towards the feeling of shame at the fact that we attach so much value to them. Inscriptions incorporated in the visual address the moment of reflection on human nature, on our own moral positions, relationships and the social structures in which we are embedded. At the same time the artist herself is testing her own position of utterance and thus asking how we face a certain impossibility of declaration, how we navigate through our own futilities and mistakes or through futility in external situations, and how we act when we have no choice but to navigate through the blunder of those who have the power to affect us.
